Volunteers of America Child Development Center

Eastmont, in collaboration with Volunteers of America, provides a child development center located  at Eastmont that works with children and their families, placing an emphasis on education, literacy, and health to ensure a smooth transition into kindergarten. The program consists of practicing academic and social skills as well as keeping a nutritious meal schedule.

Academia Del Pueblo After-School Enrichment

Academia Del Pueblo is an afterschool education enrichment program for students in grades 1st-4th. Through our partnership with the local elementary schools we are able to effectively target the “at-risk” youth and the children that may just need that extra attention to become succesfull in their studies. Whether it be homework help, practice in reading, learning through play or simply giving these children a confidence boost, our main goal is to instill in children the importance of education.
Our program offers on:  Tutoring and  Homework Assistance, Goal Setting, Computer Training, Recreational Activities, Mentoring Services, Fieldtrips, Resources and Referrals
  • Our program is open to the community and runs Monday- Thursday from 2:30-4:30pm.

Citizenship Preparation / Preparación Para La Ciudadanía

As a way to assist those in the community who are not yet U.S. citizens, Eastmont offers an evening Citizenship class for all ages to improve chances of becoming citizens. Throughout the course, a bilingual teacher prepares students specifically for the Federal Citizenship Test by reviewing U.S. history, U.S. government, the U.S. flag, the U.S. Constitution and California government. This course also includes practice quizzes and test, as well as roll play on how the questions will be asked when taking the official citizenship test. Registration is open throughout the whole year, free of charge and classes follow the MUSD academic calendar.

Estas son clases para aquellas personas que hablan espanol pero que quieren aprender a hablar, leer y escribir el inglés. También les permitirá a los estudiantes completar los requisitos para la residencia permanente y/o la ciudadanía. Estas clases pondrán énfasis en la conversación, la instrucción cívica (historia y gobierno de los Estados Unidos), la lectura y la escritura. Las clases serán ofrecidas en seis distintos niveles de habilidad. Los estudiantes pueden registrarse para éstas clases en cualquier momento, ya sea yendo a una de las oficinas de la Escuela para Adultos o yendo directamente a cualquiera de las clases y hablar con el maestro o la maestra. La inscripción, los libros y los materiales se ofrecen gratis. Los estudiantes que asistan a éstas clases podrán ser mejores consumidores, trabajadores, padres, etc. Se proveerá, gratis, cuidado de niños en edad pre-escolar para los hijos de aquellos estudiantes que lo necesiten.

English As A Second Language Classes/Educación Básica Para Adultos

We offer classes for people who speak Spanish but who want to learn to speak, read, and write in English. They also will enable students to complete requirements for permanent residency and/or citizenship. These classes will emphasize conversation, Civics (U.S. History and Government), reading and writing. There is no charge for tuition, registration, books or materials. Free child care is provided in the day classes for the pre-school children of the students.
