Eastmont’s Thanksgiving Event to Provide Hundreds of Meals, Turkeys, and 250,000 Pounds of Food to Local Families

Updated: Nov 18

Eastmont Community Center will host its annual Thanksgiving Community Event on Friday, Nov. 21, 2025, offering hot meals and take-home groceries to families facing economic strain across East Los Angeles. From 9 a.m. to noon at 701 Hoefner Ave., Los Angeles, CA 90022, the Center expects to serve 400 hot breakfasts, distribute 300 turkeys, and share nearly 250,000 pounds of food with support from partners like the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank and the generosity of our presenting sponsor, the Kroger Co. Zero Hunger | Zero Waste Foundation and the Food 4 Less | Foods Co operating division.

For many families connected to Eastmont, the day provides both practical relief and an emotional anchor: food security for the week ahead and the dignity of a holiday table that doesn’t require difficult choices between rent, medicine, or dinner.

The scale of support is possible because of community generosity. Some of this year’s sponsors — Kroger Co., Cal Water, First Citizens Bank, and SoCal Gas—are standing alongside the Center with resources that make the day possible.Their contributions, paired with the efforts of dozens of volunteers, transform limited resources into thousands of meals and pantry staples for local households.

ECC leaders emphasize that the Thanksgiving event represents more than one day of service.

“Thanksgiving at Eastmont is more than a single event—it’s the culmination of all we work toward year-round to fight food insecurity. Every day we strive to make sure families feel seen, supported, and nourished, and this holiday allows us to bring that mission to life in a way that uplifts our entire community.” said Isaias Hernandez, Executive Director of ECC.

By the end of the day, the numbers will tell a striking story—but the impact is clearest in the details: a senior leaving with fresh staples and a warm breakfast; a parent taking home groceries knowing the holiday table will be full; a volunteer recognizing a neighbor and offering an extra hand.

Eastmont’s Thanksgiving tradition endures as a marker of resilience and community care. Each year, it demonstrates what is possible when local families, sponsors, and volunteers come together, ensuring that, as the holiday approaches, more households sit down with less worry and a renewed sense of hope.
