The Eastmont Community Center (ECC) is proud to announce the return of its Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, offering free tax preparation services to individuals and families earning $65,000 or less annually. This critical resource helps underserved communities maximize their tax returns while ensuring compliance with tax laws.
The program runs from February 1, 2025, to April 15, 2025, and appointments are now available for booking on ECC’s website. Participants can choose their preferred location for added convenience.
ECC's VITA program operates on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, with select Fridays at alternate locations (dates to be announced). Specific hours are as follows:
Morning sessions: 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM
Afternoon sessions: 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM
Appointments are tailored to meet demand:
February: 1-hour appointments
March and April: 30-minute appointments
Up to 15 appointments per hour and 75 appointments per day will be available, ensuring ample opportunity for the community to benefit from this service.
What to Bring to Your Appointment
To streamline the process, participants must bring the following documents:
Photo Identification: All taxpayers must present valid ID. If married, both taxpayers must attend.
Social Security or ITIN Cards: Required for all individuals listed on the tax return.
Birthdates: Needed for everyone included in the return.
Income Statements: Forms W-2, 1099, Social Security, self-employment income, unemployment compensation, etc.
Expense Records: Documentation of tuition, student loan interest, mortgage interest, or real estate taxes (Form 1098).
Insurance Coverage: Forms 1095-A, 1095-B, or 1095-C.
Bank Information: Routing and account numbers for direct deposit (a voided check or bank statement is acceptable).
Out-of-Scope Returns
Certain tax situations fall outside the scope of ECC’s VITA program, including:
Married Filing Separately (if legally married).
Self-employment income with business-related expenses over $35,000, businesses with employees, vehicle expenses beyond mileage, depreciation, and vehicle leases.
Form 1095-A family plans with dependents filing their own return.
Rental, Foreign, Royalty, or Partnership Income (Forms K-1).
Cancelled Debt Income (Forms 1099-C and 1099-A).
Stock or Cryptocurrency Transactions.
