At Eastmont Community Center, we believe in the power of community, the strength of leadership, and the impact of dedicated service. As we move forward, we want to take a moment to reflect and celebrate the significant leadership transitions within our Board of Directors. These changes mark the beginning of a new chapter, filled with opportunities for growth and continued success.
First and foremost, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to Kristie Hernandez, who has faithfully served on our board of directors for the past eight years. Kristie's commitment, passion, and unwavering support have been instrumental in guiding Eastmont through various initiatives and challenges. Her leadership has been characterized by a deep understanding of our community's needs and a relentless drive to make a positive impact. As Kristie transitions from the board, we acknowledge the indelible mark she has left on our organization and the countless lives she has touched.
"As a lifelong resident of Unincorporated East Los Angeles, I have a deep rooted connection and commitment to uplifting the community that raised me. What better way to give back, than by serving Eastmont Community Center. Witnessing firsthand the positive impact the organization has on empowering families has been a rewarding experience. As a community advocate, I will continue to support the organization and my beloved community of East Los Angeles," said Kristie.
Ernesto Flores, who led our Board as President for 4 years, will be transitioning into the role of Treasurer. Ernesto’s decades of experience in banking and finance will support the oversight of the organization's rapidly growing budget. Ernesto's tenure as Board President was essential in supporting the onboarding of our Executive Director Isaias Hernandez at the start of the COVID pandemic and improving financial and administrative policies and procedures. Ernesto’s leadership, strategic thinking, and unyielding dedication to our mission helped spearhead the rapid growth of the organization's staff and programs.
Under his guidance, Eastmont has grown into the largest community center in unincorporated East Los Angeles, solidifying our position as a cornerstone of the community. Ernesto's legacy is one of resilience, innovation, and a deep commitment to fostering a brighter future for all those we serve.
"It has been an incredible honor to serve as the board president of Eastmont Community Center," said Ernesto. "Together, we have made remarkable strides in uplifting our community and providing essential services. As I step down, I am filled with gratitude for the support and collaboration we've shared. I am confident that Teresa's leadership will bring new energy and vision to our mission, and I look forward to seeing the continued positive impact of the Center."
As we bid farewell to Kristie, we are thrilled to announce other transitions to our Board of Directors:
Samuel Robles will be serving as Vice-President, Laura Barrera as Secretary and Teresa Palacios will be assuming the role of Board President. Teresa, who currently serves as Vice President and former Executive Director at Eastmont Community Center, brings a wealth of experience in the non-profit sector, a legacy of service to the community, and passion to this role. Her deep-rooted connection to our community and her proven leadership abilities make her the ideal person to lead the Board of Directors.
“For 56 years, the community center has managed to keep its doors open through extremely challenging times even as other organizations have closed. With the rapidly changing landscape in the non-profit sector, we need to continue investing in long term strategies to meet the evolving needs of residents. I support the development of the center’s staff to focus on expanding and improving access to services for low-income, immigrant families,” said Teresa.
During this period of transition, we invite our community to join us in celebrating the contributions of Kristie Hernandez and in welcoming Teresa Palacios as our Board President.
We are confident that these transitions will enable Eastmont Community Center to continue to thrive, guided by our shared values and commitment to making a positive impact in the everyday lives of residents in East Los Angeles and surrounding areas.
